Caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s or dementia can be immeasurably stressful, and feelings of depression, guilt, and anger are common for family member care providers. To help these caregivers work through their emotional struggles, WellMed Charitable Foundation offers the Community Stress-Busters Program for Family Caregivers.
The program is available at several sites throughout Central and South Texas, including Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and the Rio Grande Valley. Consisting of nine 90-minute, weekly sessions, the program focuses on dealing with stress through relaxation, problem solving, and other methods. Additionally, caregivers are taught how to ensure that they care for their own needs while still providing for their loved ones. Respite care may be available during the sessions for those who are unable to find other supervision for their loved ones.
