The WellMed Charitable Foundation is a nonprofit group that funds programs that support senior citizens and the people and groups who care for them. The organization emphasizes programs that focus on disease prevention, coping with chronic illness, and wellness. The WellMed Charitable Foundation was started in 2006 by Dr. George Rapier III, a physician, and is based in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. George M. Rapier III, MD, is Chairman of the Board of the WellMed Charitable Foundation. He grew up in Dallas and completed medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine. In the time since he completed his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, he has taught medicine there. Dr. Rapier started his career in an internal medicine practice that also focused on training and bettering staff management. In 1990 he founded the WellMed Medical Group. Dr. Rapier also chaired many committees that focused on expanding medical practices, which contributed to the knowledge he holds today.
In the past two years, the WellMed Charitable Foundation has supported a variety of groups and charities that support the health care of senior citizens and caregivers to the tune of more than $3 million.
